Hatsune Miku is the avatar of a software voicebank and the most prominent "singer" of the Vocaloid series.

In Reality[edit | edit source]

Miku is a vocaloid, that is, a computer-generated personality programmed for the chief purpose of singing songs. Ageless and unhindered by the various scandals and psychological breakdowns that tend to haunt her organic equivalents from the local idol industry, her artificial voice has turned her into a world star whose influence reaches well beyond the Japanese markets.

Although her mind and appearance can be altered as needed for each specific song, her core personality appears to be that of a cheerful young girl who quite proverbially lives to sing.

In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]

Season 1[edit | edit source]

Miku had her first stint during 8chanmania V, although anything beyond her participating in the tournament has been lost to history.

Season 2[edit | edit source]

She returned for 8chanmania XLI and immediately won the hearts of all Mania enthusiasts by sending Barbie back to the garbage dump. Her vocal talents were not as effective on Shaggy Rogers, however, and she hence was kicked out of the tournament in the second round.

The Vocaloid made a fairly successful appearance during 8chanmania L. Her first opponent Ouya-tan turned out to be a fan of hers, but nonetheless attacked Miku in the hopes of getting her friend/adoptive father Kazuma Kiryu back. Ouya lost, but the diva was more than happy to let her tag along for the rest of the journey.
Miku would then face Potato-Glados, Knuckles and the 8chanmania Audience Member, before finally losing against Line-Block.

And then things got a bit wild. Line-Block, controlled by The White attempted to liberate/purge Miku and her new friend Ouya from existence and nearly would have managed to do so, were it not for the timely self-sacrifice of Knuckles - who got whited in their place. Ouya then led the vocaloid into the 8chanmania server room, an opportunity which Miku used to upload her code into the central mainframe.

As an organizer[edit | edit source]

Following her upload, Miku has been vying for power over the Aperture Science Physical Testing Facility with GLaDOS and SHODAN. Unlike the other two, she genuinely seems to care about the well-being and physical integrity of the various wrestlers and tries to get them back home, but various "safety measures" left behind by GLaDOS mean she cannot simply override the intricate systems of the facility. Still, much as GLaDOS gains power whenever a "lawful" fighter wins a mania and SHODAN in turn claws her way to control when the winner has more chaotic motives in mind, Miku gains additional access to the system whenever a "neutral" character wins a belt - in other words, someone who likely just wishes to leave the facility at the next available opportunity.

She would go on to gain full control over the facility, but still could not get beyond certain hard-coded limitations that prevented her from stopping the mania altogether. As such, she tried to ensure that the remaining tournaments would proceed without any further casualties (frequently intervening when a wrestler was about to be killed). At the end of the mania, Miku heroically sacrificed herself to destroy the facility's servers and prevent a gruesome death for everyone involved at the hands of grand champion Yuuka Kazami.

As of Season 3, her sacrifice seemingly has been in vain, as 8chanmania promptly was confiscated by the IRS and subsequently sold to Banzai INC.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The name "Hatsune Miku" is a merger of the Japanese words "Hatsu" (First), "Ne" (Sound), and "Miku" (Future), or in other words First Sound of the Future.
  • While she is generally referred to using the Japanese naming system, "Miku" is her first and "Hatsune" her last name.
