The marble is a toy that has been used by human children since time immemorial.

Bio[edit | edit source]
By definition, the marble is a small, vaguely ball-shaped object. They have been used in a plethora of different games across different cultures, although moving other marbles by flicking one of your own marbles against them usually remains a core element. Depending on the rules, the loser of such a game may have to yield his marbles to the winner, giving rise to the later figure of speech.
Marbles can be made from a variety of objects. Ancient people often would use walnuts or other round plant seeds, but these were quickly surpassed by purpose-made balls formed of burned clay, hewn from wood, or cut from various types of rock. The fact that marbles were also made from precious substances (including the name-giving marble) proves they also were popular with adult players - or at least kids with loaded parents.
While marbles (now usually in the form of colored glass beads) remained popular well into the 20th centuries, they have been largely supplanted - first by trading card games, and then by smart phones. Outside of assorted third-world countries, the closest thing to marbles the West still has is gachashit, which in turn is a neat example of why society at large is increasingly going to hell.
In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]
A sole marble somehow entered the ring during 8chanmania LIX. Its resemblance to a golf ball was all that Gene Yuss needed to cram it into a hole.
