Oolong (or "Lee", if you play the lawsuit-immune Famicom/MGX ports) is the protagonist of the early fighting game title Yie Ar Kung-Fu.

Bio[edit | edit source]

Oolong is a young man that seeks to become the greatest martial arts champion in world history - partially just because he can, and partially in order to get revenge because his old man died in pursuit of the same goal. To get there, he must defeat eleven other martial arts masters, each of which have their own, unique fighting set. Yes, it's an excuse plot, but that doesn't matter.

What does matter is that Yie Ar Kung-Fu is one of the earliest true fighting games on the record. While Karate Champ had come out four months earlier and clearly had laid out much of the groundwork, it was Yie Ar Kung Fu that first introduced health bars and distinct enemies that had different movesets; thus establishing elements picked up by virtually every fighting game to follow.

In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]

Oolong fought in 8chanmania LVIII. Though a venerated ancestor of the fighting game genre, he could not entirely put up with the youngsters - much less with a certified crit-machine like Impact Brawler.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Oolong's appearance and his alternate name in the Famicom/MGX versions most certainly was not stolen from Bruce Lee.
