Philemon is a recurring character from the Persona series.

In Reality[edit | edit source]

Philemon is a god-like being that exists in the consciousness and unconsciousness of all souls, although he only awakens in those who acquire the ability to use Personas. He has a long-running bet about the ultimate fate of humanity with his old adversary Nyarlahotep; with Philemon hoping that mankind can rise beyond its own nature and face enlightenment, while his foe insists humanity is corrupted to the core and will inevitably destroy itself.

While Philemon is generally benevolent towards mortals, aforementioned bet means he can not interfere with their actions directly. Sending them to the Velvet Room, on the other hand, is another matter...

In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]

Philemon first showed himself in 8chanmania XXXIX. There, he bested both Sho Minamoto and the feral Gore Magala, but ultimately failed the extensive mechanical augmentations of Gunther Hermann.

Another direct intervention on his part during 8chanmania XLI failed miserably, as he was kicked right out of the preliminaries by Akito Kobayashi.

Perhaps desperate by now, Philemon teamed up with no-one other than Lucifer for 8chanmania XLIV. Joining forces with a proverbial demon when the first enemies they faced were Doomguy and Ranger proved to be a horrendously bad idea.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Philemon's humanoid appearance is only seen in Persona 1 and 2. In subsequent titles, he only appears as a blue butterfly.
