The Yari Ashigaru is the basic land battle unit in the 2000 strategy game Shogun: Total War, and its 2011 sequel Total War: SHOGUN 2.

Bio[edit | edit source]

Yari Ashigaru units consist of conscripted Japanese peasants who get basic training for the humble spear, or yari as they prefer to call it. Under normal circumstances, they tend to get decimated by any unit that isn't Light Cavalry. However, because of their cheapness, Daimyos who desire to become Shogun are able to spam these otherwise weak units and overwhelm their enemies in grorious spear charges.

If your name happens to end in "Nobunaga", these guys get a really nice combat bonus, and suddenly you have an army that can hold up against even the dreaded elite samurai.

In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]

A particular Yari Ashigaru first fought in 8chanmania XCII, under the command of Oda Nobunaga. He managed to prevail over a filthy nanban gaijin from Spain, but was routed by the innacurate gunfire of Mr. T, who then yeeted Oda out of Tokyo.

The Yari Ashigaru's other appearance would be in 8chanmania XCV, still commanded by Nobunaga. Unfortunately, just like the overpowered ninjas of the Ashigaru's home game, his initial opponent, Madara Uchiha, proved to be unable to be touched by mere pointy sticks. As a result, he was sent running from the battlefield after the inevitable 3-count. A SHAMEFUR DISPRAY!
