Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist and pop culture critic.

Bio[edit | edit source]

Originally entering the public stage with the 2009 launch of her website Feminist Frequency, Sarkeesian might have remained one of many other feminist critics writing excessively lengthy essays for sophisticated magazines. Then she launched a kickstarter for a video project called Tropes Against Women in Video Games. The latter fell right into the over-boiling cauldron of an early GamerGate saga, and suffice it to say that reactions were mixed.

Any further commentary on Sarkeesian is pointless, as the well has been poisoned so thoroughly that it makes Chernobyl look like a spa resort. To some, Sarkeesian is a brave woman who addressed important cultural issues and suffered through targeted harassment that included doxxing and graphical illustrations of her getting raped by assorted video game characters. To others, she is a living archetype of the 'professional victim' - someone whose sole claim to fame lies in intentionally kicking the hornet's nest and then crying for donations after predictably getting stung.

In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]

Anita Sarkeesian fought in the porn-themed 8chanmania XXX (Trigger Word: Revenge Porn). She promptly lost to the disembodied hands of the M&F Guy.
