Michael McCord, better known under his ringname as Austin Idol, is a retired US-American professional wrestler.
Bio[edit | edit source]
A certified local Florida man, McCord first entered the ring in 1972 and spent five years wrestling under different names and different promotions to build himself a name in the American southwest. That one time Buddy Colt didn't fly so good took him out of action for some seven months (which is still more than could be said about Bobby Shane), while his resulting aversion towards travelling by plane limited his operational radius to his native Southwest.
At the same time, the plane crash also led to McCord re-inventing himself as Austin Idol - a loud, blonde-bleached braggart that knew how to play a crowd in way second only to Hulk Hogan himself. Alas, Idol's distrust towards larger promotions (after his one-year stint with WWF had kept him jobbing) and the aforementioned dislike of long-distance travel meant he spent two decades as a big fish in a relatively small pond. He officially retired in 1998.
Nowadays, Idol operates the Universal Wrestling College in South Carolina, and runs the Idolmania wrestling stable in the NWA.
In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]
Austin Idol fought in 8chanmania XCVII. Having once run as the masked 'Super Texan' back in '74, he was thrilled to see an actual luchador in the form of Los Tiburon as his opponent. That the latter ended up dismantling him didn't seem to bother idol in the slightest - especially when it turned out what he had thought to be a planned rival wrestling gym on the part of Los Tiburon actually would be a Pokémon gym.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- 8chanmania's memetic infatuation with Austin Idol mostly sprung from the repeated playing of his -Killer- -KILLER- -K I L L E R- ad for his wrestling college during the mania's commercial breaks. See for yourself.
- Austin Idol may or may not have inspired the visual design for Leather Teeth.
