The Fat Chocobo is a recurring character from the Final Fantasy series.
Bio[edit | edit source]
The Fat Chocobo is a big bird (for you). Debuting all the way back in Final Fantasy III, it originally served as a summonable item stash to counteract the game's inventory limit. In Final Fantasy V and onwards, it instead serves as a lethal type of joke character that has a small chance of appearing during various summons or limit breaks. It's a pretty rare sight, but dropping the bird instead of a piano on someone has something deeply satisfying to it.
By the time of Final Fantasy IX, the Fat Chocobo had become the emperor of the aptly-named island of Chocobo Paradise. Yet another couple of games later, in Final Fantasy XIV, it has been unceremoniously demoted to a player mount for people who bought the Collector's Edition. It's pretty insulting to both the player and the Chocobo, really, but once we get around Final Fantasy XX, you'll probably have to sacrifice your firstborn to Sony in order to get a glimpse of it.
In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]
The Fat Chocobo fought in the Square Enix-themed 8chanmania XCIV. Its enormous size drew the immediate attention of Morrie Mozzarella, who handily defeated the 'fat chick' and made it part of his arena.
