Gabe Logan Newell, popularily known as Gaben is an American software developer and president of Valve Corporation.
Bio[edit | edit source]
Newell spent three years studying at Harvard University before dropping out to join Bill Gates at a then-young Microsoft in 1983. His thirteen years in the company saw him as lead developer for the first three releases of Windows (as well as Doom's original port for Windows 95). In 1996, Gabe and his colleague Mike Herrington left Microsoft to found Valve. The latter earned quick fame with its blockbuster title Half-Life, but later established itself as one of the world's largest digital game retailers through its online platform Steam.
Newell's public perception is a bit of a mixed bag - from the time of founding Valve and up until around 2010, Gabe "Piracy is a service problem" Newell enjoyed immense popularity and often was considered a saint of the gaming industry. But Half-Life 3 never came, and as Valve increasingly turned away from active game development (outside fucking Dota), Newell was increasingly seen as yet another corporate overlord who went out of his way to make sure you will own nothing - especially when it comes to your Steam library.
In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]
Newell debuted in 8chanmania X, where he formed a tag team with fellow game developer Todd Howard. The two didn't make it beyond the preliminaries; being thrown out by Isabelle and Bill Trinen.
During 8chanmania XXVI, Newell suffered another defeat after failing to realize the body of Reggie Fils-Aime was very much ready.
