The Gremlins are the titular villains of the 1984 horror comedy Gremlins.
Bio[edit | edit source]
While looking for a Christmas present for his son, disaster-prone inventor Randall Peltzer runs into a shady Chinatown shop, where he spots a cute furry critter. Reluctantly, the son of the shop owner sells him the mogwai, but warns him of three things: No bright light, no water, and absolutely no feeding after midnight.
Now, bright light actually kills the mogwai, while water causes it to spawn meaner copies of itself. But being fed after midnight tusprns the mogwai into a Gremlin - a scaly, cheerfully sociopathic nightmare version of the original critter whose concept of 'fun' usually is as anarchic as it is violent. And they would have gotten away with it, too, if it hadn't been for that one carebear.
In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]
The Gremlins (or rather, one Gremlin in the ring and many more spreading chaos among the audience) appeared in the Christmas-themed 8chanmania LXXIV. Their original plan to raid the corndog stand came to quick halt when they ran into J. F. Blake. Even defeated, however, the Gremlins left a trail of destruction (and slapstick humor) as they darted out of the venue.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- In the extended background, the Mogwai/Gremlins were created by the Chinese deities Nuwa and Fuxu as a means to test humanity: Nuwa believed that man was inherently good, and thus fashioned mogwai to be amicable little critters so long as their owners followed the three basic rules. Fuxu believed man was inherently evil, and thus had the Mogwai turn into Gremlin when they did not.
