John Proctor is a historic figure and one of the player avatars from The Town of Salem.
Bio[edit | edit source]
Originally born in Suffolk, England; Proctor and his family moved over to the American colonies when he was at the mere age of three. He grew up to become a respected businessman that owned multiple farming estates and a tavern just south of the town of Salem. He also was a born family man; siring fifteen children from three different marriages while only losing two wives in childbirth.
Proctor met an untimely end when his servant girl, Mary Warren, accused Proctor's third wife, Elizabeth Proctor, of witchcraft. To make a long story short, Proctor's attempt to defend his wife against said accusations got him hanged, and Elizabeth Proctor only survived because her being pregnant at the time saw her sentence postponed until the general public realized everyone had collectively lost it.
Proctor and the wider Salem Witch Trials would later become a cornerstone of American culture, and theoretically could have served as a cautionary tale against the effects of mass hysteria. In practice, American election seasons showcase this evidently didn't work, and Proctor is stuck as a cartoon mascot for flash-in-the-pan browser games whenever he isn't in The Crucible.
In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]
John Proctor appeared in 8chanmania LXXV. His sound defeat by The Man with No Name suggest he actually wasn't a werewolf, necromancer, or witch this time 'round - but Salem being Salem, you never can be quite sure.
