Bio[edit | edit source]
Kazuma Kiryu is the protagonist of the Yakuza series. True to the name of the game, Kiryu is a member of the Yakuza. He does various dirty jobs for the Tojo Clan - more specifically, the Dojima family. Despite (or perhaps because) of this, he follows a strict personal code of honor, making him kind and graceful towards those he likes and extremely brutal towards those he does not. After the events of the first Yakuza game, Kiryu was named the Fourth Chairman of the Tojo Clan. He resigned from the position the very next day, but is still affectionately referred to as Fourth Chairman by many members of the clan.
Kiryu holds the power of Justice. Much as with the Honk of Clown or the Genocide of Yuuka Kazami, the latter allows him to unfurl powers well above that of a regular mortal. In particular, Kiryu is noted for having KO'd Satoru Iwata mere seconds after their match began - and, notably, after Iwata fought a rather lengthy match against Segata Sanshiro.
Raised in an orphanage himself, Kiryu currently is affiliated with the Sunflower Orphanage has a soft spot for children (as made evident by Haruka Sawamura and Haruto Sawamura). This eventually led him to adopt Ouya-tan as a would-be-daughter; making him the first person that genuinely likes the poor, miserable failure of a console.
In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]
Season 1[edit | edit source]
Kiryu may or may not have debuted all the way back in 8chanmania III, but this is speculation.
His first recorded appearance was during 8chanmania X, where he teamed up with Goro Majima. The Yakuza took care of Ryo Hazuki and Delin Hong, but where the combined edge of Postal Dude and Coldsteel the Hedgehog did not suffice to cut them, the avalanche caused by Yeti Girl and Ski Free Yeti sure did.
Kiryu was later seen in 8chanmania XXII, where he lost against Allen O'Neil of Star Gate fame.
He made another appearance in 8chanmania XXVI. There, he began the tournament by not only defeating, but also allowing Ouya-tan to tag along with him in one of the most heartwarming moments of the entire mania. His fight against Satoru Iwata would become the stuff of legend as Kiryu KO'd the late game developer in no more than one minute and eighteen seconds (to be fair, Iwata had been fighting Segata Sanshiro for nearly one hour beforehand), and badmouthing on Ouya-tan was the last mistake Johnny Turbo made before Kiryu kicked him out of the quarter finals. Winning his next fight against JC Denton in the semis, Kiryu finally entered and won the finals against Sir Daniel Fortesque, earning himself a well-earned belt.
As a Mania champion, Kiryu also participated in the grand finals of 8chanmania XXXIII. He managed to withstand the raw manliness of Aniki, but then ate a knock-out punch by John Doe in the following round.
Kiryu also was nominated for 8chanmania x MFW - IN/V/ASION and honorably fought against High Orc. He did not make it past the next round; courtesy of Aniki.
Season 2[edit | edit source]
For 8chanmania XLIV, Kiryu formed a tag team together with Ouya-tan. The unlikely couple fought and won against Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose (or to be more clear, Ouya KO'd Ambrose three minutes into the match), but was kicked out of the match in the second round when they lost against Yuuka Kazami and Luca Blight.
Twenty-one manias later, Kiryu and Ouya once more fought as a tag team, although Ouya notably was less than happy about seeing the Yakuza that had seemingly left her behind. They faced - and promptly lost- against George Constanza and Tomoko Kuroki during the preliminaries. Ouya subsequently asked Hatsune Miku to send Kiryu back home while mentioning certain bad omens.
Season 3[edit | edit source]
Presumably owing to the success of Goro Majima in the preceeding mania, the Dragon of Majima took part in 8chanmania LXXXVI. He quickly was sorted out by Erich von Raitenau.
His next chance in 8chanmania XCV went equally poorly - while he managed to escape criminal persecution by Dick Gumshoe and his superior Miles Edgeworth, he immediately got honked by Clown in the next round.
Well aware that 8chanmania XCVIII would be his last chance, Kiryu called on no-one other than Kenshiro as his tag team partner. Their first match against the Jackie Chan Tulpa and Chuck Norris would immediately turn into one of the hottest matches of the mania when Kenshiro ate a crit at the hands of the Tulpa; only for Kiryu to fight on and actually win the match through a submission hold against Chuck Norris anyway. Unfortunately, this trial by fire clearly weakened the fighter of Jastisu, and when it came to their next match against Hank Hill and Bobby Hill, Kiryu himself got knocked out only 48 seconds into the fight.
8chanmania C[edit | edit source]
During 8chanmania C, Kiryu was found by Goro Majima. The latter taunted him into a fight by asking him if he had already forgotten about a "certain girl". Kiryu reactle appropriately, and a bloodied/satisfied Majima told him Ouya-tan had been taken in by Kazuma Kuwabara. Kiryu's wish to reunite with her met with little approval from the bancho, and he once more had to fight it out until Kuwabara told him Ouya was now hanging out with the likes of Galsia. The thug, in turn, also required a good beating until he admitted Ouya was now under the protection of PS4-tan. She accepted no less than yet another battle and a declaration of fatherly love for Ouya on behalf of Kiryu until she allowed him to pass to Ouya herself.
The latter was less than happy about the return of the man who she thought had happily abadoned her. As rain began to fall upon the ring, she and Kiryu fought a heartstrungs fight; ultimately ending in the Yakuza's victory and a crying console girl flying right into his arms, making him promise he would never throw her away again.
Relationship with Ouya-tan[edit | edit source]
Despite being the Japanese equivalent of a mafia mobster, Kiryu has a heart of gold, and thus can not stand others - specifically children - being miserable. After defeating Ouya in 8chanmania XXVI, he thus decided to take care of her. His benevolence was rewarded during the fight against High Orc: Although Kiryu won the match, he very nearly would have succumbed to the aphrodisiacs produced by the defeated monster, had Ouya not rushed into the ring and dragged him out of the seduction zone. Kiryu's current location in the 8chanmania lore is unknown, but he did get separated from Ouya at some point. This was likely not a choice he made himself, a third party with malicious intent probably caused it.
Following a lengthy period of seperatation after 8chanmania XLIV, the two no longer seem to be on the best of terms. Ouya in particular apparently felt abandoned after Kiryu's sudden disappearance, and it remains dubious whether the two will become fast friends again. Or if, for that matter, they will have enough time to do so.
