Keine Kamishirasawa is a were-hakutaku from the Touhou franchise. She acts as a Stage 3 Boss and then reappears as a mid-boss for the extra stage of Imperishable Night-
Bio[edit | edit source]
Keine protects the human village of Gensokyo from Youkai and other potential attackers, and also teaches history at the local temple school. On regular nights, her special ability is to "eat" history, allowing her to hide things (including the entire human village) from the perception of outside observers. On nights with a full moon, she undergoes a partial transformation into a hakutaku, greatly enhancing her strength and altering her ability to the point that she can "create" history. While in hakutaku form, Keine supposedly is aware of Gensokyo's entire history (with limited exceptions).
She is friends with Fujiwara no Mokou, presumably because her view on history makes it easier to understand the ancient immortal.
In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]
Keine's first and hitherto only appearance was during 8chanmania XLIV, where she formed a tag team with Mokou. Unfortunately for her, the two were immediately defeated by Dr Robotnik and I.M. Meen; with the latter threatening to abduct Keine's students into his labyrinth.
Keine and Mokou gave it another try during 8chanmania LIII and were far more successful this time. They defeated:
- Waluigi and Marc
- Bob and Hat Kid (notably through a rare timeout)
- H.P. Lovecraft and Maya Tesch
Alas, the two friends bit off more than they could chew when facing Los Tiburon and Vivec in the semi-finals.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- A hakutaku is a mythical beast from Chinese folklore. It is said to resemble a horned bovine or lion with the face of a man, and provides counsel to noble rulers.
- In-universe sources suggest Keine was not born as a were-hakutaku but acquired her therianthropy later on in her life (which is why she only undergoes a partial transformation; growing a tail and horns). By comparison, born theriantropes like the werewolf girl Kagerou fully turn into animals - in her case, a Japanese Honshu Wolf.
