Koakuma is the Stage 4 mid-boss of Touhou Koumakyou ~ the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil.
Bio[edit | edit source]
Much like Daiyousei before her (literally so, as Daiyousei is the game's Stage 2 mid-boss), Koakuma was designed as a fairly generic mini-boss with no spoken dialogue, no named spellcards, and no actual name of her own. Also much as with Daiyousei before her, fans immediately began to think of her as a full-fledged character in her own right, and christened her Koakuma (or 'Little Devil') after ZUN once described her as such on a long-lost bulletin board.
Koakuma, it was decided, had to be some sort of demonic familiar to actual Stage 4 boss Patchouli Knowledge. Since Stage 4 is the giant library in which Patchouli lives and works, fans deduced that Koakuma must serves as Patchouli's librarian. And probably the resident semen demon, given her resemblance to Morrigan Aensland - but that's beside the point. Her role as a dutiful librarian was later canonized by various cameo appearances in associated printworks.
In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]
Koakuma's first and hitherto only appearance was in 8chanmania XXXI, where she formed a tag team with Patchouli Knowledge. Alas, the two could not withstand the black hole of social incompetence presented by George Constanza and Tomoko, and they were kicked out right during the preliminaries.
