Masatoshi Hamada is a Japanese comedian and one half of the comedy duo Downtown.
Bio[edit | edit source]
Much as his partner Matsumoto, Hamada came from a poor household and spent much of his early years in run-down apartment building. Although Hamada knew Matsumoto since elementary school, the two did not become friends until they hit junior high. By 1982, they had hired up with the amusement conglomerate Yoshimoto Kogyo (which, we swear upon our lives, is totally not run by the Yakuza), and by 1983, they formed their iconic Downtown combo.
As established by the venerable Manzai rules of old, Hamada acts as the straight 'tsukkomi' to Matsumoto's idiotic 'boke'- In practice, this means Hamada will frequently whack Matsumoto (or anyone else that bothers him) over the head with a paper fan, a mere piece of paper, or just about anything else he might find lying around. This is usually followed by his characteristic, high-pitched chuckle.
In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]
Hamada fought in 8chanmania XX where he (to his dismay) was partnered up with Hitoshi Matsumoto. His attempt to give Pipimi and Popuko a head message by means of a steel chair was cut short hen he tapped out in a submission hold on the part of Popuko.
