Optimus Prime is the leader of the Autobots from the Transformers franchise.
Bio[edit | edit source]
It's 1983. Expelled from their native homeworld, two Hasbro employees attend a toy expo in Japan in the hopes of finding products for the US market. As fate would have it, Japan was busily going through its golden age of mecha anime, whose toys / figurines sold like crazy. The Hasbro hacks thus bought the rights to two toy lines and, having learned from He-Man, ordered some advertising cartoons from Marvel.
The arguably best known of these toy robots is Optimus Prime - the leader of the valiant Autobots that fled to Earth from their war-torn home planet Cybertron, and now seek to defend both themselves and humanity from the vile machinations of the evil Decepticons that followed them all the way back home. All for the sake of shilling plastic toys. And that's before Hollywood picked up the whole mess.
In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]
Season 3[edit | edit source]
Optimus Prime debuted in 8chanmania LXXXII. Somewhat flabbergasted that he had been shrunk down to the same size as robotic equine, he nonetheless managed to bend its metal frame until it tapped out (clopped out?). He had less luck in his following fight against Knuckles, whose signature ability to punch through dense objects came in most handy.
8chanmania C[edit | edit source]
It goes beyond saying that Optimus Prime made a mandatory appearance in 8chanmania C's Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny battle royal match. How exactly he fared there remains unclear, although he had gotten eliminated by the time Darth Vader entered a steady orbit around Dwayne Johnson.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The design for Optimus Prime and the original lineup of the Transformers toys were all designed by Shōji Kawamori and Kazutaka Miyatake - both of which are famously for their work on Macross series and other mecha titles.
- Meanwhile, the overall plot and characterizations for the comic series were penned up by Marvel editor Bob Budiansky.
