The Orange Mushroom is a generic enemy from the Maplestory.
Bio[edit | edit source]
Whereas other MMORPGs usually sic low-level players upon rats, wolves, or any other form of obnoxious wildlife for the sake of a fetch quest involving copious amounts of body parts, the diabetes-inducing sugary world of Maplestory instead sends you off to kill mushrooms. Not the Dark Souls kind of scary, towering mushrooms; mind you - but cutesy mushrooms that solely exist to hop around and be mercilessly butchered in a Korean grindcore MMORPGs.
This raises its own set of questions. Can fungi feel pain? Does it count as murder if you kill a fungus that was peacefully minding its own business? And how many fungi can a player kill before he starts to question his own existence? The game won't bother to give you an answer. If mostly because the entire show actually is a secret mind control project jointly run by North Korea and the South Korean government - which is to say, Nexon.
In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]
An Orange Mushroom appeared in 8chanmania XCIII. It's mere existence (and the fact it could talk) gave serious halt to Duke Nukem; to the point the latter began to wonder if the mushroom actually was a hallucination from the magic mushrooms he downed at a party the other day. What could have made him an easy opponent spelled doom for the Orange Mushroom, as the Duke decided the best way to cure his mushroom trip was to start another one, and promptly ate the Orange Mushroom after defeating it.
While the Orange Mushroom wasn't physically present in any further manias, its ghostly after-image continued to torment a still-tripping Duke all the way to 8chanmania C.
