Pepe the Frog is one of the characters from Matt Furie's Boy's Club.
Bio[edit | edit source]
In his original incarnation, Pepe simply was a laid-back slacker who shared a flat with the rest of the comic's protagonists. His deeply philosophical personality reflected the principles of Hakuna Matata from The Lion King and Take it Easy from the Touhou Yukkuri series, with nary a care for the events at large surrounding him. This changed dramatically when 4chan laid its tentacles upon him, and Pepe was mutated into an icon ranging from anything between bliss to smugness to utter despair.
By 2016, Pepe had mutated into a vile symbol of the alt-right, standing for racism, sexism, antisemitism, literally-hitlerism, and white supremacy. This went so far that Matt Furie himself decided to illustrate a formal burial for Pepe in the hopes that it would kill him off for good, but as with everyone with so much as a faint grasp of the Streisand effect knows, he might as well have poured oil on the fire. That Pepe can be literally fucking anything you want him to be so long as you don't try to slam a big "VERBOTEN" sign onto his green skull slightly flew above everyone's head.
In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]
Pepe's sole known appearance was in the early 8chanmania II. There, he forced Moon Man into submission before he himself underwent an extinction event at the hands of Yuuka Kazami.
