Shotaro Kaneda
Shotaro Kaneda is the main protagonist of the 1988 anime movie Akira.
Bio[edit | edit source]
It is the year 2019. The world has collectively gone to hell, and Tokyo has been razed to the ground. The city of Neo-Tokyo built to replace it is an urban dystopia, stuck between a corrupt government and gang violence running rampant in the streets. Suffice it to say everything looks pretty bleak, but at least the cyberpunk fetishists are having a field day.
Shotaro Kaneda is the sixteen-year-old leader of The Capsules - a gang of street bikers that, among other things, like to hold violent races against other gangs. During one such race, Shotaro best pal Tetsuo Shima accidentally crashes into some random kid. Who also happens to be an Esper that just ran off from some shady government lab. Things get even more complicated when it turns out Tetsuo also is an Esper, and promptly gets disappeared by the authorities.
It goes beyond saying that this doesn't sit well with Shotaro, and after joining up with an anti-government resistance cell, he sets out to rescue him. Except the government has swept an entire lot of shit under the rug when it comes to the Espers. And Tetsuo, for his part, plans to blow it all back to the surface in a veritable fountain of feces.
In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]
Shotaro Kaneda debuted in the bancho-themed 8chanmania XLVIII. He was booted out of the first round by Okuyasu Nijimura.
While he hasn't been seen in the ring ever after, Shotaro Kaneda acted as the manager/moral support for Tetsuo Shima in 8chanmania XCV. Unfortunately, sending what looked like a warp-touched kid against Markus Kruber ended up poorly.
