Sonic the Hedgehog is the mascot of the eponymous franchise from SEGA.
Bio[edit | edit source]
It is 1990. Following the launch of its Genesis console, SEGA came to the grim realization that the Genesis lacked a popular flagship character and series in the likes of Nintendo's own Super Mario. As one of multiple R&D teams, programmer Yuji Nakata came up with a protype game about rolling through tubes, and designer Naoto Oshima decided this would best be done by rolling into a ball - like a hedgehog.
Said Hedgehog bears the name Sonic, likes to go fast, and is the perpetual nemesis of what Nakata and Oshima designed to look like "a Teddy Roosevelt Clone in pajamas". He and his games proved (and still prove) to be a major commercial breakthrough, but while Sonic was a childhood hero to many, he also became an inspiration for generations of DeviantArt users and worse that never left childhood.
In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]
The OG, oldschool Sonic made a brief appearance 8chanmania LXXX. Crash Bandicoot (Retold) mistakenly believed him to be the Sonic from his respective multiverse, and the horrible misunderstanding ended with Sonic tapping out in a submission hold.
