Roger Keith Barrett, better known under his stage name as 'Syd Barrett, was a British singer, guitarist, and co-founder of Pink Floyd.
Bio[edit | edit source]
A bit of a free spirit since his youngest days, Syd spent much of his childhood with drawing, writing, and playing the guitar. Already having gathered some stage experience with the teenage band Geoff Mott and the Mottoes, he joined Roger Waters and Richard Wright to form Pink Floyd in 1963; and successfully reined in their habit of changing the band's name every other Tuesday.
Alas, Syd was an extremely free spirit - meaning he already was well on the spectrum, and his rampant drug use ended up pushing him to full schizo mode. By 1968, things got so bad that Waters and Wright kicked him out of the band. He went on to produce two solo albums and did some limited gigs here and there, but the same mad genius that had made him a star also made working with him a genuine challenge
Syd withdrew from the spotlight in 1975, and returned to his mother's home in Cambridge to become a gardener and painter. He passed from pancreatic cancer on July 7th, 2006.
In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]
Syd Barrett fought in the post-mortem 8chanmania LXXXI. He remained remarkably composed upon his encounter with Jareth the Goblin King (presumably being used to seeing way more bizarre stuff), and didn't put up much of a fight before the latter spirited him away to his personal realm.
