The Gadabout is a recurring type of vocation from the Dragon Quest series; first appearing in Dragon Quest III.

Bio[edit | edit source]

Gadabouts are meant to be literal joke characters. Their original incarnation saw a stark difference between male gadabouts (who genuinely looked like clowns) and female gadabouts (who wore sultry bunny girl suits), but as of Dragon Quest X, both genders wear bona-fide clown suits. Times sure change.

The entire class is effectively built around a game of chance - the older Gadabouts came with a chance to flatly ignore the players' commands in favor of a random action. Even in games that gave the player more control about their gadabout, its abilities usually were as likely to be useful as they could be useless or even harmful to the party. Nonetheless, mastering the path of the gadabout is necessary to become a powerful spellcaster in the form of a Sage or a proficient support character in that of the Luminary.

In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]

A male Gadabout goofed around during 8chanmania LXXI. Its stupid amount of luck allowed it to best Ganondorf, cripple Captain Padraig and stretch the Mount Your Friends Guy into submission, but his humor evidently fell flat on Uncle Buck.
