Kawase Umihara is the protagonist of the eponymous platformer series Umihara Kawase.

Bio[edit | edit source]

Kawase is a young Japanese sushi chef with a pink rucksack who somehow got lost in a weird world full of bipedal fish and other bizarre creatures. Aside from classical moves such as running and jumping, Kawase's chief means of transportation comes in the form of her fishing line, which she routinely uses as a grappling hook to get from one end of the level to the other. The games' often idiosyncratic physics system can make the latter difficult for newcomers, but players more experienced to the rope mechanics can (ab)use the latter for quite spectacular moves.

In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]

She debuted in 8chanmania LVIII. There, she bested Iku Acme and Green Soldier, but was ultimately gutted by Yuuka Kazami.

Kawase reappeared in 8chanmania LXIX - and how she did. She refused to be eaten by Mud Raptor and instead prepared it to be eaten, proved that sushi is superior to pizza by beating Peppino Spaghetti, defeated Ness and tried to teach him how to fish (garnering her the life-long hatred of Default-Chan) and even defied the Russian giant Zangief. Her crowning achievement and the source of her new belt was her victory against no-one other than the dreaded Luca Blight - a deed that made her an instant fan-favorite (as well as putting her on Blight's death list).

During the grand finals of 8chanmania XCIX, the sushi chef caused endless frustration to Teagan Almace, and likewise caused Badmella to throw a catastrophic tantrum after the latter had returned home, only to find herself on the receiving end of the stick when La Madremonte perceived her fishing line as offensive to nature.
As told by her epilogue, Kawase's inherent charisma saw her earning an advertising job in the aftermath of the mania. Which, in turn, might have been charming, had her employer been anyone other than Big Bill Hell.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • According to Sayonara Umihara Kawase, she has a descendant called Noko Yokoyama.
