Jareth the Goblin King is the main antagonist of the 1986 movie Labyrinth.
Bio[edit | edit source]
As his name implies, Jareth is the ruler of the dim-witted goblins inhabiting the eponymous labyrinth. Unlike them, he doesn't look like the anthropomorphic crossing between a wild boar and a mutated street rat, but rather takes the appearance of a glam rock singer from the 80s; down to his habit of lusting after underage groupies.
When sixteen-year-old Sarah Williams wishes away her infant step-brother Toby to the goblins, Jareth was more than happy to oblige. His plan to make her his, however, sort of fell short when Sarah bested the thirteen-hour quest through the labyrinth he had bestowed upon the girl. The Goblin King supposedly spends most of his time fluttering around as an owl nowadays.
In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]
Jareth's sole appearance was in 8chanmania LXXXI. He danced circles around Syd Barrett and reduced Scatman John to an awkward stutter. Things took a turn for the worse when he faced an actual wrestler in the form of Eddie Guerrero.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- David Bowie, the rather idiosyncratic figure behind Jareth, passed away from liver cancer in 2016.
- Jareth and Labyrinth have their own manga and comic sequels, namely Return to Labyrinth and Labyrinth: Coronation.
