Barbie is a toy doll and face of the eponymous franchise.

Bio[edit | edit source]

Back in the 1950s, a certain Ruth Handler realized all the dolls her daughter Barbara played with took the shape of infants or little girls, while the tin soldiers and other toys of her son Kenneth generally depicted grown males. Fearing this difference might serve to indoctrinate young girls to become mothers and housewives only (and smelling a fat profit from a niche in the market), she devised Barbie as a grown woman pursuing a plethora of previously male-majority jobs.

For all of Handler's good intentions and the commercial success of the proverbial plastic doll, Barbie did not remain without criticism. Feminists complained that the fabulously pink glitter world of Barbie promoted the same social gender norms the dolls were meant to break, and also argued the proportions of the dolls promoted highly unrealistic body standards. Men complained that boys were feminized by playing with (i.e. stripping and masturbating to) Barbie dolls. And all the little girls bitterly complained whenever they didn't get the umpteenth version of the same doll in a different dress for Christmas.

Despite of the continuous whining, Barbie remains one of the most popular brands of dress-up dolls. They made a freaking live-action movie about her, for god's sake.

In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]

Barbie fought in 8chanmania XLI, where she fought Hatsune Miku. The two pop culture icons spent a small eternity locked in a vicious cat fight, but by the time the match was over, Hatsune Miko walked off triumphant.
