Gunther Hermann is a character from the first Deus Ex.

Bio[edit | edit source]

Fully decked out in heavy mechanical augmentations from head to toe, Gunther is closer to a robot with the occasional fleshy part slapped onto it than to a human being, and constantly hungers for new upgrades to improve his efficiency as a killing machine. Though loyal to UNATCO (and even more loyal to his colleague Anna Navarre), Gunther holds a strong dislike for the new generation of UNATCO agents enhanced with nanotechnology rather than mechanical augmentations of his own kind; fearing that the newcomers will put him and others like him on the scrap heap. He and JC Denton subsequently become fast friends.

Hermann by no means is the sharpest knife in the drawer, but possesses a low cunning, armor akin to that of a small tank, and decades of experience with all sorts of weaponry that has helped him to kill almost a thousand people over the span of his career. On the downside, his mechanical augmentations often are wildly impractical for day-to-day life, as his thick fingers struggle to use keyboards without hitting buttons they had not meant to push. Gunther's inability to operate UNATCO's local soda machine, which invariably spits out lime-lemon while he desperately yearns for orange soda, nicely sums up this major flaw.

In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]

There are rumors that Hermann first appeared somewhere in the first season of 8chanmania, but these can no longer be confirmed.

His official debuted was in 8chanmania XXXIX. Gunther's augmentations proved superior to that of the Replica Assassin, so it came as no surprise that he also found little issue with weeding out the Piranha Plant. The philosophical musings of Philemon went wildly over his head, but not before Hermann could stomp his one. But for all the mechanical strength his augmentations undoubtedly gave him, the cyborg still was unable to put up with the strongest.
