Red Mage

The Red Mage is a recurring job class from the Final Fantasy series, which in turn inspired the eponymous character from 8-Bit Theater.
Bio[edit | edit source]
Red Mage considers himself a tactical genius (or, in his own words, a "fractactical genius"). His actual assessment of battlefield strategy mirrors that of Gilbert and Sullivan's modern Major-General - in the sense Red Mage has extensive meta-knowledge about video game mechanics, which are virtually useless in a world that doesn't run on video game mechanics. In his defense, Red Mage's plans usually are so patently absurd that at least some of them end up working out.
Red Mage also prides himself on his versatility, and only joined the Warriors of Light to prove he is more versatile than White Mage. Much of said versatility comes from the fact that he lugs around his own character sheet and can rewrite it at will; allowing Red Mage to give himself all sorts of skills will. In practice, however, Red Mage's very unique understanding of logic and common sense mean he'll unfailingly take the least useful skill for any given predicament.
In 8chanmania[edit | edit source]
Season 1[edit | edit source]
Red Mage's first known appearance was in 8chanmania XXIX, where he (presumably) fought against JC Denton.
Season 2[edit | edit source]
He would later appear in 8chanmania XLV, where he fought against Plum. As if losing to the golfer wasn't bad enough, a misunderstanding based on golfing jargon led to Red Mage being taken into custody by the Lolice. As the cherry on top, the Lolice would arrest the aggressively homosexual Fleece Johnson during the same mania, and one can only hope the two of them were put into different cells.
His last appearance was in 8chanmania LXIII, where he escaped from prison and saved White Mage's life by catching a bullet on behalf of Revy for her. It's not as dramatic as it sounds, given how White Mage simply resurrected him afterwards.

- Red Mage is one of the default party members when FFI is first booted up. Despite this, official FF canon states the 4 Light Warriors were made up of a Fighter, a Thief, a White Mage, and a Black Mage.
